Musk (pungent and warm, opening the orifices and unblocking closed passages), borneol (longnao, aromatic and dispersing), storax, benzoin.
Representative formulas
Angong Niuhuang Wan, Zhibao Dan, Zixue Dan (the three cool-opening treasures, which use musk and borneol to open the orifices and restore consciousness); Suhexiang Wan (warm-opening, using storax and benzoin to open the orifices). Used for unconsciousness, convulsions, and block syndromes of stroke.
