The Wubaiyi agarwood research team reviewed a study from the food journal Foods (2023, CC BY): adding agarwood leaves to goat diets regulates lipid metabolism and improves meat quality, providing a scientific reference for the resource utilization of agarwood leaves.
The Wubaiyi agarwood research team continues to follow the frontier progress in the whole-plant resource utilization of agarwood (Aquilaria). Recently, the team reviewed a study published in the international food journal Foods (2023, DOI: 10.3390/foods12030560, CC BY open-source license). Conducted by the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences and other institutions, the paper explored the effects of adding Lingnan agarwood (A. sinensis) leaves to goat diets on lipid metabolism and meat quality.
The study shows that adding 20% agarwood leaves to the diet can reduce feeding costs without lowering goat growth performance; in the experimental group, blood total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein decreased while high-density lipoprotein increased, muscle cholesterol decreased while some flavor compounds increased, and metabolomics suggested that lipid metabolism-related pathways were activated. The study also identified 418 active compounds in agarwood leaves and cited the conclusions of prior toxicological safety evaluations.
This paper provides a scientific reference for developing agarwood leaves in feed and functional resource directions. Wubaiyi agarwood will continue to track and compile authoritative literature in the agarwood field, serving collaborative innovation across industry, academia, and research.
