Opening a shop begins with establishing a signboard. Our shop name is not made up on the spot, but invited out from a painting eight hundred years old.
In Zhang Zeduan's "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" from the Northern Song dynasty, shops lined the area around the Hongqiao in Dongjing, and one incense and medicine shop's signboard bore the eight characters "Liu Family's Carefully Selected Agarwood and Sandalwood Incense Shop." The incense and medicine shop in the painting sold agarwood, sandalwood, and carefully selected fine incense—a line of business directly continuous with what we do today. We invited it out to serve as our shop name in recognition of where this old trade comes from.
A shop name is not something to be used casually. We applied for a national design patent for this signboard design (patent number CN202530328668.8, granted), which is effectively putting a legal lock of identity on the signboard. It is both a tribute to history and the identifying mark of this shop today.
Truly working with agarwood depends not on a signboard, but on material selection and craftsmanship. The signboard binds us to the concrete task of "selecting incense"—selecting means picking, tree by tree, piece by piece. Come to the Songzhuang shop and you can see a physical example of this signboard design, and also handle the materials we have selected.
The signboard was invited out; trust is earned day by day.
The signboard design can be seen in the shop; the specific story of the shop name and the material selection standards are more intuitive to discuss in person than to read in an article. Address and business hours are on the contact page.
Explain your specific situation clearly, and we will give corresponding judgments and suggestions—sourcing, personal use, and appraisal are all accepted.
