Songzhuang isn't just galleries and art museums—tucked away in the alleys is an agarwood shop that has brought the signboard from "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" right onto its counter.
Songzhuang is home to tens of thousands of artists and countless galleries and art museums, where looking at things and talking about things is a daily routine. Agarwood is naturally suited to this kind of setting—you have to hold it in your hand and bring it close to your nose to truly experience it. We opened our shop in the art district precisely to give exhibition-goers one more corner to pause in.
In the morning, visit one or two art museums or artist studios; at noon, find a small eatery in the art district for lunch; in the afternoon, stroll slowly along the main street and you'll turn right into our shop. No need to rush—take a seat first thing after entering, and the shopkeeper will invite you to smell sample incenses from several different producing regions, comparing them to feel the differences in scent.
Besides smelling incense, the counter displays incense sticks, incense vessels, raw materials, and hand pieces, all of which you can pick up and examine. The style of the signboard in the shop is taken from the old name of an incense-and-medicine shop in "Along the River During the Qingming Festival," and it has been registered for a design patent (Patent No. CN202530328668.8)—it's something of an ID card for us.
Visiting Songzhuang, what you see is other people's expression; smelling agarwood, what you hear is your own nose.
