First time in the store? Just follow this route.

Many people feel a bit lost on their first visit to the Songzhuang store: should they look first or ask first? Here is a store-visit route that helps you avoid missteps.

Step one: sit down and smell first

No need to rush into picking products when you walk in. First sit down in the fragrance-sampling area and smell several samples one by one. We have prepared small samples from different producing regions and with different resin formation, and the goal is to let you first take in “fragrance” through your nose. Once you have smelled clearly, later choices will have a basis.

Step two: handle and inspect the material

After smelling, take the pieces you are interested in into your hands and inspect them: oil lines, texture, weight, and appearance, comparing them on the spot. The advantage of a physical store is exactly the information a screen cannot convey—the rise and fall of the grain, the solid feel of the weight, and the nearness or distance of the fragrance all depend on your hands and nose.

Step three: conveniently get an appraisal

If you have questions or pieces you sourced yourself, you can book a ¥9.9 public-welfare appraisal and discuss authenticity and condition face to face. Finally, if you happen to catch an incense friends gathering, sit down and listen for a round; it is more hands-on than any guide. Before leaving, remember to take a usage card so you can continue exploring after you go back.

Visiting the store is not about completing a task; it is about gradually returning the power of judgment to your own hands.
