Two ways into the same scent family — and which suits a first step.

Oud oil is distilled from resinous agarwood. The same material that gives chips their scent is steam- or hydro-distilled into a concentrated oil. So "oud" and "agarwood" are the same family — oil is the extract, chips are the wood you heat.
Agarwood chips are gently heated so the resin releases aroma in layers. They are the most direct way to learn what a grade actually smells like, because you control the temperature and watch the aroma develop.
Choose chips if you want a home incense ritual and to compare grades side by side. Choose oil if you want a personal scent to wear. Many people start with chips to learn the aroma, then add oil later.
Begin with a small chip set and a simple heater, learn the temperature ladder, then decide whether oil belongs in your routine. Tell us how you plan to use it and we will suggest a starting grade.
Same family. Oud oil is distilled from resinous agarwood; chips are the wood you heat. Both come from Aquilaria resin.
Chips are the lower-risk start: cheaper to try, reusable in a session, and they teach you what a grade smells like before you commit to oil.
Distillation concentrates a small amount of resin into oil, so the cost per wear is higher; chips give more sessions per gram of material.
